Brooks Selection® A Trademark of Carlton Plants

Old Home by Farmingdale OHxF - In 1992, Willow Drive Nursery acquired the license to propagate the popular OHxF series of rootstocks. these stocks had been developed by Lyle Brooks of Daybreak Nursery and Dr. Mel Westwood at Oregon State University. This superior series of rootstocks are well anchored, resistant to fireblight, compatible with most varieties. Winder hardy, precocious and quite productive.

OHxF 87 - has proven to be the most precocious of rootstocks tested at the Mid-Columbia Agricultural Ressearch and Extension Center in Hood River. The excellent early production imparts some early spurring and growth control with the d'Anjou variety. This enables a grower to plant slightly closer in the row than with OHxF 97 and Bartlett seedling.

Willow Drive has in the past propagated other OHxF rootstocks such as 69, 217 and 518. They are quite similar to OHxF97. Originally Dr. Westwood and other researchers thought these rootstocks would give some growth control. On good soils this has not proven to be the case.

OHxF97 - is a selection that is fast taking over as the leading pear rootstock in the Northwest. It is similar in size to Bartlett seedling, has proven to be very productive, but gives no growth control. Growers like OHxF 97 for its early fruiting, its excellent vigor, especially for red pears and other less vigorous varieties and its good anchorage. The pear tree on OHxF 97 responds well to limb manipulation.
